James J. Kriner – Attorney/Associate

Jim grew up in Hockessin and attended St. Mark’s High School, the University of Delaware, and Widener University School of Law.

After graduating from the University of Delaware, Jim was employed by a national and regional commercial real estate development firm, where he gained experience developing, financing, leasing and managing shopping centers.  While working full time, Jim attended law school, where he was a member of the Delaware Journal of Corporate Law.  Jim graduated with honors from Widener University School of Law and joined the Criminal Division of the Delaware Department of Justice (DOJ).  During his 24-year career as a prosecutor, Jim handled thousands of felony cases, prosecuting cases in every court in the State and appearing before the Delaware Supreme Court.  Jim held several key positions at the DOJ, including head of the New Castle County Felony Trial Unit (2008-2010), head of the New Castle County Homicide Unit (2010-2013), Chief Prosecutor for Kent County (2013-2014), and statewide Director of the DOJ Special Victims Unit (2016-2022).  Jim was an advocate for the most vulnerable victims in our state and represented the Attorney General as a member of the Child Protection Accountability Commission, Child Death Review Commission and the Child Abuse and Neglect Committee.  During his career at the DOJ, Jim loyally served five different Attorneys General before retiring in 2022.

Jim brings his strong work ethic, good judgment, and years of valuable experience to the clients of GDWG.  He focusses on the individual needs of each of his clients.  His primary practice areas are residential and commercial real estate transactions.

Jim lives in Hockessin with his wife, Johnna.  The couple have two adult children, Sydney and Jimmy.  In his spare time, Jim competes in obstacle course races, and enjoys trail running and travelling with Johnna.
